Its been close to a week since I've been back from the lovely city of Pittsburgh- having attended FlashPitt 2008. I have a bunch of incriminating photos to pull from the camera still :)
I was honoured to be asked to speak at this event - doing a session entitled "Experience vs Functionality". Due to a small scheduling conflict, I ended up being the only choice the poor people had during that day, so my room was pretty packed. As always, I had some "choice" slides and this seemed to be everyones

One of the things we are working on over at Teknision right now, is an AIR application for the Konductor Platform - we call it Konductor. Chances are, you might just see it at MAX in November...
Beta seats just opened up - 500 people will be allowed to test drive this application and the CMS platform - so hurry over to the Konductor Blog and come and see what we're so excited about at Teknision.

I just got home from Flash Forward late last night - checked my inbox and I must have got somewhere around 20 emails about my presentation.
I have posted my presentation - both the keynote and the pdf. Feel free to use it/abuse it, pass it on. You can download the presentation here.
Thanks for all the great feedback - its really nice to hear that people enjoyed the presentation. At one point I was laughing so hard I was unsure I was going to be able to continue...
Big thanks to Brandon Hal

Looks like I got the prime slot - the sleeper afternoon session on the very last day.... :) The theme of this years conference is Passion - and seeing that I'm passionate about process, its fitting I'll be doing a preso entitled " Project Management from the Developers Perspective". Not sure what to expect? Hopefully some insight, definitely some humor. If you see me there, come say hi, and heh, wish

I'm just now starting to get back into the swing of things having recently returned from what can probably be considered my first real vacation in years. 10 days away from deadlines, work, worries - lots of time to do a bit of self-reflection - something that often makes me wish I was just back at work. Yes, introspection makes me cringe at the best of times.
I spent somewhere around 10 days - checking out Lisbon, driving and getting very lost in Paris ( yet I drove and survived and am a bigge

While in Atlanta, I got to work some extremely talented peeps and see the evolution of some of their ideas and works in progress. Pirated copies and ebay sales - two really bizarre signs of what I'd call success for a project we recently released at Fuel Industries - Fairies and Dragons. Now being handed out in various places throughout the UK and Europe, the interactive McDonalds happy meal toy was probably one of the largest projects I have worked on in terms of sheer team size, and is one of the bigger projects I think to come out of Fuel.
And for the first time, I just realized, I'll be able to go in-store and pick

Just a random dump of things I've learned the past couple of months, not all Flash related.I'm going to try to do this more often because its good to go back and remember the stuff that stumped you or you didn't know.
So just a few:
1. Don't try to snapshot a NetStream. Long gone are the days of creating a bitmap, and doing a transition with it. Release 115 of the player plugged what they considered a security hole. People had a shitload of pretty hackilious workarounds but from what I've seen

A co-worker came across a weird one today - where it seems that certain components in the Flash 9 set don't play nicely with 3rd party wrappers. I say wrappers, because it wasn't just limited to one- but with Zinc, mProjector and even his own C# swf wrapper. Looks like anything with the scrollbar causes it to render some awesome seizure flickering action - as if there is a compile error that isn't being caught. Happens to components that look like they are composites - the simple slider, scrollP

I was really happy to see Finetune as part of of the AIR Spotlight Videos . So many people have asked exactly what is Finetune, and I think they do a great job of explaining what it is, and why it deserves to be an AIR case study.
The Finetune case study is something that shouldn't just be looked at from the entire AIR perspective - this isn't the first platform/deployment venue where Finetune has been smart enough to be one of the first people in/adopt ( the Wii player version immediately com

Can developers be more than awkward sweat-panting-wearing-binary-speaking-basement-dwelling nerdites who catalog Star Wars figurines and reminisce about marathon DnD games?
Is this the typical flash/flex developer stereotype? Is this yet antoher thing I have to battle against when I've been silo'd into a particular role that people associate particular traits and attributes to? Developers are not creative for they are inherently 0/1. Developers can't communicate. Developers don't understand des

When it came to discussing the future of Flash video, I was a bit surprised that people were putting the focus on deployement platforms rather than the actual asset itself.
