"Hello there..."

A thread for introductions.

Ahoy hoy,

I was enlisted to the the ~v0.13 playtest via the forum for “The Dungeon Dive.” I’ve been trying to playtest at least once a week since the game arrived in July 2026, and I shell out a lot of feedback here on the assumption that it’s useful.

I’m a strange duck, hobby-wise. Dipped a toe into MTG a long ways back but never really played a modern boardgame until COVID when I jumped into Arkham Horror 3E, 2-player co-op, I’ve gravitated towards solo play since then… and general collecting-of-things-that-look-and-sound-cool-even-if-I’ll-never-play-them. I’ve got a lot to choose from in the backlog of games I never played when they first came out. I definitely think about tabletop games more than I play them.

I’m mostly drawn to games developed by small teams of impassioned people that do thoughtful/innovative/ambitious things with narrativity. I’m deeply underwhelmed by commentators who think St. von Neumann intuited the Platonic essence of a “game” for the first time ever in the early 20th century. I’m downright enraged by hobbyists who impulsively crowdfund a game based on its art, then give it a bad review because they think it doesn’t offer enough room for them to flex their world-class decision-making acumen, by offering them “enough” choice or agency or strategy. In my free time, I enjoy editing my posts in online forums to correct grammatical issues and add unnecessary details.

I’m extremely fussy about rulebooks, iconography, and the physicality of gaming on small tables, and this generally slows me down when I learn any game.

Despite all my nitpicks elsewhere in the forum, I’m very impressed with Zigurrat:Viridian Shroud so far. It’s the kind of game I’m drawn to and that I respect. It can assume no right to exist, it’s here by sheer strength of will and creative drive. I’m glad I get the chance to try to turn my fussiness into productive feedback that (I hope) will help an indie designer fulfill their vision.

Hi! Happy to be here.
